Mother Nature was the winner at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday afternoon.
After an attempt to get the YellaWood 500 started just before 4 pm ET, the rains returned to the skies over the 2.66-mile Alabama raceway, leading NASCAR officials to postpone the event to Monday afternoon at 1 pm ET.
Rain showers had been moving through the Talladega area throughout Sunday morning, and the wet conditions led officials to push back the scheduled 2 pm ET start time to allow for track drying. The racing surface was ready to go by about 3:30 pm, and the field rolled off in an attempt to get the race underway.
But just before the drop of the green flag, the skies again opened up. With the lenghth of time it would take the dry the track and the amount of daylight left, race officials made the decision to push the race to Monday afternoon.
Denny Hamlin will bring the field to the green flag from the pole, with Kyle Busch starting alongside. Dawsonville, Georgia’s Chase Elliott rolls off from the third starting spot, with Ryan Blaney in fourth and Kyle Larson in fifth.
Martin Truex, Jr., Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, William Byron, Alex Bowman and Christopher Bell rounds out the top 12 starters.
