LINCOLNTON — Towns County’s longest winning streak in more than a decade came to a tough end on Friday in a 43-12 loss to Lincoln County on the road.

The Indians (4-2, 0-1 Region 8-A Public) were looking for their first-ever win over the Red Devils (4-2, 1-0 Region 8-A Public) and for their fourth road win of the season, which also would have been a program-first.

But the Indians’ defense, which was allowing just 17 points/game so far, could not slow down a Lincoln County offense that was averaging 22 points on the season.

Kyle Oakes, the leading rusher in Class A Public coming into the game, scored both of the Indians’ touchdowns.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Indians next week as they play host to a resurgent Commerce squad in another huge 8-A Public battle.
