GREENSBORO — Commerce opened Region 8-A Public with an impressive 35-7 win over Greene County on Friday on the road.

It was the ninth straight season the Tigers (3-2, 1-0 Region 8-A Public) have opened region play with a win.

After a slow start battling injuries and breaking in some young players, the Tigers resembled their old selves against Greene County. They piled up 395 yards on the ground, paced by 220 yards from freshman Jaiden Daniels, who also scored three touchdowns.

Junior Jackson Morris had 87 yards and one score and senior Dreylan Martin returned from some nagging injuries to add 85 yards and a score as well.

The Tigers, who came in as the lowest scoring team in Region 8-A Public averaging just 13.0 points/game, nearly doubled their season output on Friday

The Commerce defense held Greene County (3-3, 0-1 Region 8-A Public) to just 79 yards rushing and just 149 total yards for the game.

Commerce now has won two straight for the first time in 2021 and will travel to an improved Towns County team next week.
