Boys basketball: Jefferson blows past Branch; Chestatee downs WHall

FLOWERY BRANCH — The Jefferson boys outscored Flowery Branch 56-22 in three quarters to blow past the Falcons, 62-30, on the road on Saturday. 

Spencer Darby led the Dragons (15-4, 8-2 Region 8-4A) with 14 points, while Kaden Bailey hit for 11. 

The Dragons outpaced The Branch 35-17 in the first half. 

Jacob Dixon led the Falcons (3-15, 0-10 Region 8-4A) with 9 points.

Peyton Phillips scored 27 points and Hugh Pruitt added 21 to lead the War Eagles past West Hall on Saturday. 

Ethan Popham turned in another double-double performance with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Phillips hit nine 3-pointers en route to the 27-point shooting show. 

Chestatee led 21-13 after the opening period but West Hall held the War Eagles to five second-quarter points to close the gap to two points at the half, 26-24. 

Phillips lit up the board in the third quarter, scoring 12 points, all from the 3-point line, Popham hit for 7 points and Pruitt tossed in 5 points, but the Spartans remained close. Mainly, thanks to Chase Reed and Braden Sims, who combined for 12 points, closing the third quarter down by eight, 51-43. 

It wasn't until the fourth quarter that the War Eagles were able to extend the lead out of reach. Eli Parlier scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter to help push the lead up for the War Eagles. 

Reed led the Spartans with 16 points, Owen Jenkins had 12, Simms had 11, and Stephen Clark added 10 points. 

Jefferson's Kadin Bailey scored 11 points in the Dragons' win over Flowery Branch on Saturday.
