Members of the community can now join in creating a time lapse video of Sims Lake Park in Suwanee as part of a partnership between the City of Suwanee and the website Chronolog.

Visitors to the park will find a photo station at the base of the waterfall stone steps feature. They can place their cellphone in the station, snap a photo and then upload that photo to the website listed on a nearby display.

The website automatically arranges the photos in chronological order. A time lapse with photos that have already been uploaded is available at Suwanee.com.

Kim Towne, events coordinator for the City of Suwanee, is leading the project. She said that she first came across a Chronolog photo station when she and her family were out on a hike at Smithgall Woods State Park in Helen.

“I thought, we have a very picturesque park here [in Suwanee] with a beautiful lake, it usually has a fountain going during the season, it has four seasons of color and it also has some prominent pieces of public art,” said Towne.

Towne explained that her observations prompted her to contact Chronolog and order a photo station. She said that ordering a station was a win-win move because it’s beneficial for Suwanee citizens and furthers the Chronolog company’s mission of encouraging science in the community.

“I thought this would be a really neat way to do a project that we had never done before and it encourages people to get out and enjoy our parks, as well as contribute to this citizen scientists project,” she said.

Towne said that the station was installed in December and will remain in place until at least through the end of 2021.
