DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County's Jake Craft is as humble as they come.

The senior guard has been impressive this season and last week, Craft exploded for a combined 115 points in three games, including a 45-point performance against rival Lumpkin County and 30 each against Riverdale and Pickens.

Teammate and captain Ty Whitmire said Craft doesn't boast about his scoring on any given night.

"He just comes into the lockerroom humble as can be," Whitmire said. "He won't say I scored this, or I scored that. He's just a great person and a great player -- love playing with him."

And on cue, Craft throws all the credit to his teammates.

"I've got to give a lot of credit to my teammates," Craft said. "I mean, Jaden Gibson, he's having like 10 assists a game. Coach says to feed the hot hand and I've had the hot hand."

His coach, Todd Cottrell, says he doesn't know what's gotten into Craft but hopes it continues.

"Jake is a really good basketball player, and he's a good person and teammate," Cottrell said. "So you kind of have the whole deal with him. He constantly works on his game like most of our guys do. What we're seeing now [out of Craft] is what he's been working on for years."
