Girls basketball roundup: Shake up at top of wild 7-3A highlights big night

Region 7-3A saw a shakeup at the top of the standings after a key night of action.

White County handed Gilmer its first region loss of the season, 66-59, in Ellijay and Lumpkin County routed Dawson County 68-33 in Dawsonville to put Lumpkin and White into a tie for first place with just two weeks left in the regular season. 

The Lady Bobcats dropped from first to third with the loss.

In Ellijay, White County used a 21-9 third quarter to pull away and then held off the Lady Bobcats on the road. They avenged their only region loss to Gilmer earlier in the season with the victory.

The Lady Warriors (9-7, 6-1 Region 7-3A) led most of the way taking a 23-20 lead into the intermission. They led 44-29 after the big third quarter and then held off any Gilmer (10-3, 5-1 Region 7-3A) comeback attempts.

Naomi Roberts led four White County players in double figures with 13 points. Maddie Futch added 12, Dasha Cannon 11, and Madison Adams had 10 for the Lady Warriors.

Emma Callihan had 18 points for Gilmer.


LUMPKIN COUNTY 68,
DAWSON COUNTY 33

The Lady Indians (13-4, 5-1 Region 7-3A) swept the season series with their arch-rivals.

Lumpkin County led throughout and was paced by Mary Mullinax with 21 points. Isabel Davenport added 20 points and Lexi Pierce had 14 for the Lady Indians.

Dawson County (8-8, 1-6 Region 7-3A) was led by Madison Anglin with 15 points.


CEDAR SHOALS 35,
EAST HALL 29

The Lady Vikings had their two-game win streak snapped at home.

East Hall (11-5, 2-3 Region 8-4A) dropped to fifth in the region standings but is only two games out of second place.

Callie Dale led the Lady Vikings with 22 points.


JEFFERSON 70,
MADISON COUNTY 35

The Class 4A top-ranked Lady Dragons stayed unbeaten in Region 8-4A play after a dominating win at The Arena.

Jefferson (12-3, 5-0 Region 8-4A) led from start to finish taking a 44-20 lead by halftime. The Lady Dragons got balanced production with Ellie Kinlaw pouring in 16 points. Deshona Gaither and Allianne Clark each had 11 points and Hailey Triaga 10 points for Jefferson.

The Lady Dragons will now get ready to take on No. 7 Cedar Shoals in Athens on Friday looking for the season sweep.


RABUN COUNTY 69,
BANKS COUNTY 51

The Lady Wildcats earned their first Region 8-2A win of the season in a battle of top 10 teams.

No. 1 Rabun County (12-3, 1-1 Region 8-2A) got a balanced attack with five players in double figures. Ellie Southards led the way with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Lucy Hood had 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists, Gracie Deetz added 12 points 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks, Carley Haban had 10 points and 4 steals and Sophie Woodard had 10 points and 2 steals for the Lady Wildcats.

No. 7 Banks County (13-8, 0-2 Region 8-2A) had its three-game win streak snapped with the loss. The Lady Leopards were paced by Kamryn Grier with 20 points. Jenna Reeves added 12 points and Addison Hoard had 10 points for Banks County.


LANIER CHRISTIAN 45,
FIDELES CHRISTIAN 25

The Lady Lightning opened the game with a 14-0 first quarter and then cruised to the road win.

LCA took a 24-10 lead into the halftime and put the game away with a 14-7 fourth quarter finish.

Shyla Sheffield scored 11 points and swiped 4 steals to lead LCA.  Reece Montgomery had 9 points, 5 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal for the Lady Lightning.  Maegan Nabors, Lexie Robertson and Hollie Buessee each contributed 6 points for LCA.
