An Atlanta man that led deputies on a chase as he traveled the wrong direction on Ga. 365 through Habersham and Hall counties was arrested in Gainesville early Saturday.

Devondre Antonio Walker is charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, speeding, obstructing law enforcement officers, seatbelt violation, reckless driving, failure to obey traffic light, failure to maintain lane, and driving on the wrong side of the road, Rabun County jail reports show.

Rabun County deputies began pursuing a vehicle driven by Walker southbound on U.S. 441/Ga. 15 shortly after 12:30 a.m. The vehicle entered Habersham County, with deputies joining the pursuit at Talmadge Drive in Hollywood and Hazel Creek Road near Mt. Airy, said Habersham County Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Wurtz.

At some point during the Habersham County portion of the chase, the fleeing driver began traveling southbound in the northbound lanes and traveling at speeds up to triple digits.

After entering Hall County, the driver stopped near RaceTrac on Ga. 365 and ran into the woods, where he was apprehended by deputies.

“We didn’t have any units close enough to respond,” said Hall County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Derreck Booth. “We did check on a vehicle the perpetrator allegedly ran off the road. There were no injuries and there was no damage.”

Bond was set at $10,320 and Walker was released Saturday, Rabun County online booking reports show.

Neither Habersham nor Hall County charged Walker.
