FLOWERY BRANCH – The Flowery Branch City Council gave second reading approval Thursday evening to a pair of rezoning applications that will allow for the construction of a facility measuring nearly 19½-acres underroof when fully completed.
The unspecified tenant, or tenants, will initially occupy a distribution center of 611,200-square feet as well as 43,000-square feet of office space. The unanimous approval by the city council allows for an additional 192,000-square feet of expansion at a future date.
The combined 80.4-acre property adjoins the Atlanta Falcons Training Center on Falcon Parkway.
Will Greer, representing developer Eberly & Associates of Atlanta, told council members during the online city council meeting that one of the main focuses of the project is making the gigantic facility as inconspicuous as possible.
“The main reason that the particular tenant that is driving this project is interested in this property is ultimately due to the level of screening that’s going to remain in place,” Greer said.
Greer explained that several small streambeds traverse the property and state and local regulations require they remain undisturbed. The property, Greer explained, is heavily wooded and only the facility’s footprint will be cleared for construction.
“It’s a project that’s really not going to be very visible from anywhere but Atlanta Highway (Falcon Parkway),” Greer added.
No further details on whom the possible tenant might be were released by the developer.
ANOTHER ELECTION STRAIGHT AHEAD
Many municipalities hold their local elections in odd-numbered years and Flowery Branch is no exception.
First reading of an ordinance was approved by the Flowery Branch City Council Thursday evening establishing November 2, 2021, as Election Day and August 16-18, 2021, as the qualifying dates.
Positions on the city council up for re-election include Mayor and council member Posts 3, 4, and 5. The qualifying fee for Mayor is $180, with the cost for the other spots being set at $144.
Currently Mike Miller serves as Mayor; Leslie Jarchow serves Post 3, Joe Anglin serves Post 4, and Amy Farah serves Post 5.
