When it comes to individual performances so far in the early part of the 2020 season, northeast Georgia players are leading the way around the state.
And Region 7-3A in particular is showing just how much of an offensive powerhouse it is (and we knew it would be, right?!) and will probably continue to be.
However, if anyone had Flowery Branch quarterback David Renard sitting atop the state's passing chart at this point, we would love to also get some stock tips from you. (The stats are provided by Georgia High School Football Daily.)
The junior leads all classifications in passing yards with 1,034 and also sits as the top QB in Class 4A. But he is one of just five northeast Georgia area players in the top 1 in the state. Dawson County's Zach Holtzclaw with 840 yards leads Class 3A and sits third overall. Clete Cooper of East Hall (695 yards) is second behind Renard in Class 4A and 11th overall. J. Ben Haynes of White County has thrown for 670 yards, is third in Class 3A, and 13th overall. West Hall's Clayton Jenkins with 614 yards is fourth in Class 3A and 17th overall for QBs in the top 20.
For the state rushing leaders, Habersham Central's Jackson Clouatre with 480 yards leads Class 6A and is 7th overall. Towns County's Kyle Oakes lads Class A Public with 478 yards and is 8th overall.
And in the receiving category, two area players lead their respective classifications. Branch's Connor Larson leads Class 4A leader with 416 yards and is fourth overall. Jaden Gibson of Dawson County leads Class 3A with 320 yards and is 13th overall. Macere Walker of East Hall is 15th overall with 312 yards; Baxley O'Brien of Flowery Branch is 18th overall with 277 yards and Rodrigo Lopez of West Hall is tied with O'Brien at 18th with 277 yards as well.
Only Branch is not in action this week so several could continue to climb the charts after Friday night.
We'll keep watching at AccessWDUN for sure.
