Softball: Branch, Lumpkin, Jefferson take region wins; Buford rolls

BOGART — Nikki Harris scattered four hits and struck out eight to lead Flowery Branch to a big 3-1, Region 8-4A win over North Oconee on Monday in girls softball action.

Harris was able to pitch around three Lady Falcons errors and got just enough from the offense.

Flowery Branch scored a run in the second on a RBI single from Alyssa Wagner. The Lady Falcons plated a pair of runs in the sixth when Savannah Rutledge singled in a run and MaKaela Davis doubled a run to make it 3-0.

North Oconee’s only run came in the bottom of the seventh but Harris stranded the tying runs on base.

MaKaela Davis finished with two hits for Flowery Branch.


BUFORD 15
NORCROSS 5

Buford pounded out 14 hits in taking a non-region win in five innings Monday on the road.

Sophomore Emma Castorri, senior Abbi Perkins, and junior Taylor Malvin all had two hits for the Lady Wolves. Castorri knocked in three runs with Perkins and freshman Mackenzie Pickens both driving in a pair of runs.

Sophomore Chloe Hatcher earned the win for the Wolves allowing five runs on six hits in four innings. Senior Riley Reese pitched the final inning for Buford.

The Lady Wolves (19-3, 9-0 Region 8-6A) will jump back into region play on Tuesday playing host to Dacula at the Buford Softball Complex.


MADISON COUNTY 6,
EAST HALL 0

Madison County used a five-third inning to blow open a close en route to a Region 8-4A win in Danielsville.

East Hall managed just four hits -- two from Callie Dale and one each from Brooke Hewell and Ansley Ivey -- leaving a pair of runners on in the fourth and stranding five runners in scoring position for the game.

Madison County scored a run in the first on a RBI double from Lexi Jordan.

One bright spot for East Hall Vikings Varsity Softball was a single by Callie Dale in the fourth inning.

Emma Strickland got the win for the Lady Red Raiders allowing just the four hits while striking out five.

Calli Hardison took the loss for East Hall giving six runs on six hits and fanning just one in three innings. Maggie Banks pitched the final three innings striking out two and yielding just two hits and no runs.


LUMPKIN COUNTY 3,
NORTH HALL 1

Despite being outhit 9-2, Lumpkin County held off the Lady Trojans in a Region 7-3A game on Monday.

The Lady Indians scored a run in the first on a RBI double by Amma Johnson. They added two more in the fifth.

North Hall answered with a run in the sixth but could overcome three errors.

Emmie Graham got the win for Lumpkin County scattering the nine hits while striking out three and walking just one in seven innings.

Bre Stowers took the loss for North Hall going six innings, allowing three runs on two hits and fanning two.

Kaylin Peach, who led the way with three hits, Sam Rooker, and Macy Slater all had multiple hits for the Lady Trojans.


JEFFERSON 17,
CHESTATEE 0

Taylor Spivey tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Jefferson to a Region 8-4A win in three innings on Monday.

Spivey, who surrendered just one hit and fanned six, also got plenty of support as the Lady Dragons struck for 11 runs in the second inning. Maleia Truelove, Emma Kate Sorrells, Anslee Pittman, Paige Kelly, Abby Beatty, and Mac Turner all drove in runs in the frame.

Kendall Bailey added a grand slam to highlight a six-run third inning as Jefferson invoked the mercy rule.
