More than 200 community volunteers signed up to complete service projects at local non-profits last week as a part of the United Way of Hall County’s first-ever Week of Caring.

Over a dozen non-profits received help from these volunteers; volunteers completed approximately eight on-site service projects and 11 remote service projects.

Representatives from 16 local companies volunteered throughout the Week of Caring, as well.

“Honestly, I can just say that we are so overwhelmed by the generosity that we have received from the community this week,” said Meghan Mitchell, Director of Resource Development for UWHC.

The Week of Caring was the official kick-off for UWHC’s annual fundraising campaign. Staff with UWHC normally host a party of some sort to begin the fundraising year, but with current gathering restrictions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, they created the Week of Caring instead.

Mitchell said that the Week of Caring was also intended to promote volunteerism in the community.

“It’s intended to inspire them to continue to volunteer throughout the year and give them a deeper awareness of local needs,” she said.
