HIAWASSEE — It's not that Towns County beat Lumpkin County. It's the manner in which they did so.

Towns County piled up 387 yards of offense, most of that in the first half,  and held Lumpkin County to less than 200 yards of offense en route to a stunning 43-14 win at home Friday night.

Coupled with last week's 28-14 victory over Bethlehem Christian Academy, it was the first back-to-back wins for the Indians (2-1) since closing out the 2017 season with consecutive victories.

"I just thought the guys came out and played hard and executed," Towns County coach Jason Roquemore said. "I was very pleased with the effort overall. I feel like we're close to getting to where I think we can be."

Towns County got started quickly and never let up racing out to a 37-0 halftime lead. Most of Lumpkin County's offense, just 59 yards rushing and 105 passing, came in the fourth quarter as they finally got on the board.

Towns County senior quarterback Mason Thomas was 8-of-10 passing for 215 yards and 3 TDs. Hayden McClure was the main beneficiary with three grabs for 162 yards, but 140 coming after the catch. Garrett Oakes had 3 catches for 31 yards.

Junior running back Kyle Oakes provided the ground presence with 152 yards on 20 carries.

Defensively for Towns, Seth Gillis and Reace Hampton each had 9 tackles and combined for 5 tackles for loss on the night.

Towns County next will play host to unbeaten Mt. Zion-Carroll (2-0) next week. The Indians have not started a season 3-1 since 2008.

Lumpkin County (0-2) will play host to Banks County (0-3) next week.
