A Clarkesville man arrested recently by Cornelia investigators remains jailed on new Habersham County charges after an investigation into alleged child molestation.
James Edward May, 60, was charged by Habersham County investigators on Sept. 15 with one count each of aggravated stalking, aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, and enticing a child for indecent purposes, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Wurtz.
Those charges follow an investigation worked in conjunction with Cornelia Police Department, Wurtz said.
May previously was arrested by Cornelia police on Sept. 4 and was charged with child molestation, sexual battery, first-degree cruelty to children, and enticing a minor for indecent acts.
He was released on a $52,100 bond in the first case.
“He did operate an ice cream truck, but our arrest had nothing to do with that business, the ice cream truck,” said Cornelia Police Chief Chad Smith.
