JEFFERSON -- The explosion at Memorial Stadium was the Jefferson offense.
In a game that was basically over at the half, the Dragons rolled up 526 total yards -- all on the ground -- to blister Class 6A Central Gwinnett 61-7 in the Jefferson season opener.
"Our coaching staff does an incredible job," Jefferson coach Gene Cathcart said on the Hardy Chevy Scoreboard Show. "I'm really proud of the way Malaki Starks distributed the ball and made good reads throughout the night. We're blessed to have a lot of guys that can do good things with the football."
Jefferson reeled off 395 rushing yards in the first half with Power 5 recruit Malaki Starks churning out 177 yards on seven carries and three touchdowns.
The Dragon defense held the Black Knights to just 48 plays, and 116 total yards of offense (-8 rushing, 124 passing).
Jefferson was on the board in the first 10 seconds of the game when Starks broke loose on the first play from scrimmage and scampered 65 yards for the score. Starks scored again seven minutes later to go up 13-0 after a missed extra point.
The flurry continued with Reese Johnson, Kolton Jones, Kam Robinson, Carter Stephenson and Michael Sheehan (2 TDs) all cross the goal line.
Jones finished with 78 yards on two carries, and Sheehan finished with 50 yards on six carries.
