BUFORD — It might have been a slow start, but it was a strong finish as Buford scored six runs in the sixth inning to blow past Lanier, 10-4, Thursday at the Buford Softball Complex.
The Wolves needed their rally caps for the second day in a row as they trailed by two runs heading to the fifth inning. Junior Taylor Malvin answered the rallying cry with an inside-the-park home run, and Chole Hatcher singled scoring Mackenzie Pickens, who tripled a batter earlier, to tie the game at 2-2.
In the sixth inning, the Wolves scored six runs on five hits, a sac fly and an error.
Freshman Emma Grace Williams gave up four runs, struck out seven in seven innings of work to earn the win in the circle.
Malvin led the Wolves turned in a 2-for-2 performance with a home run, three RBIs and a stolen base to lead the Wolves. Pickens was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Abbi Perkins was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Alicia Ross scored two runs and was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Buford (13-2, 8-0 Region 8-6A) will play in the Brookwood Invitational tournament on Saturday. They'll play Peachtree Ridge at 9 a.m., followed by Forsyth Central at 1 p.m. at the Buford Softball Complex.
