Softball: Buford, Hab Central get big 8-6A wins; Tuesday roundup

WINDER — Buford continues to stay hot after taking an 8-0 victory over Winder-Barrow on Tuesday in region 8-6A play.

The Lady Wolves (11-2, 7-0 Region 8-6A) got another strong outing from freshman pitcher Emma Grace Williams (6-0) who scattered two hits and fanned two in five innings to get the win. It was her second shutout win of the season and her sixth coplete-game effort.

The Buford offense was highlighted by back-to-back home runs from seniors Abbi Perkins, a three-run shot, and Emmy Hall, a solo blast. Junior Taylor Malvin had two hits, stole two bases, and scored twice for the Lady Wolves.

The Wolves travel to Wesleyan on Wednesday for a non-region game.


HABERSHAM CENTRAL 8,
SHILOH 2 8 Inn

Habersham Central's Brayden Staton singled in a run in the top of the eighth inning to ignite a six-run frame as the Lady Raiders took a key Region 8-6A win on the road.

Sadie Hawkins and Taylor Wade also had big RBI hits in the deciding inning. However, it was Jordan Littlejohn that gave them a chance to stage the comeback with a single in the seventh to tie the game at 2. They had trailed 2-1 after the fifth after Shiloh scored twice to take the lead.

Kyla Quiles got the win allowing no hits and no runs 3 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking just one.

Hailey Wade started for the Lady Raiders going 4 1/3 surrendering six hits and two runs whileand striking out four.

Habersham pounded out 10 hits for the game with Wade rapping out three hits on the day.


COMMERCE 10,
FLOWERY BRANCH 6

The Class A Lady Tigers improve to 8-4 after knocking off the Class 4A Lady Falcons.

Commerce jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the second inning but scored three times in the third to grab the lead for good. The deciding blow was a 2-run homer from Paige Vickery in the third to break a 3-3 tie.

Rachel Morgan went the distance for Commerce allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out four. Nikki Harris also went the distance for Flowery Branch giving up 10 runs on 11 hits in six innings.

The Lady Falcons cut it to 6-4 with a run in the fourth but the Lady Tigers exploded for four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead. Flowery Branch plated two runs in the seventh but could get no closer.

Carson Hobbs finished with three hits and a pair of RBI to lead the Lady Tigers offense. Anna Taylor had two hits and three RBI and Gabbie Deaton also had a pair of hits for Commerce.

Mak Davis had three hits and Alyssa Wagner two hits to lead Flowery Branch.
