Volleyball: WHall streak continues; GHS sweeps match; Bluff splits

OAKWOOD — The West Hall volleyball team extended its streak with wins over Madison County and arch-rival Johnson Thursday at home. 

The Spartans (7-1) knocked off Madison, 25-18, 25-20, and followed it with a close battle against the Knights. 

The Knights opened the match with a 25-22 win, but West Hall rallied to edge Johnson, 25-21, to force the tie breaker set. The Spartans won the third set, 15-9, to take the match. 

The Lady Spartans were led by Chloe Radich with 15 assists, 11 kills and 5 aces. Kaleigh McFarland and Natalie Vazquez combined for 27 digs and Angelica Mallak having 5 kills and 5 blocks. Briana MacGillivray also had 8 kills. 

Kali Lyons led the Knights with 2 aces, 2 kills, 1 block, and 8 assists. Tatum Kirk had 3 aces and 3 kills.

Zoey Blankinship scored 3 aces to lead the Knights past Madison County, 25-12, 25-17. Alexa Berry had 1 ace, 1 kill, 3 blocks and 1 assist. Kali Lyons had 1 ace, 4 kills and 2 assists. Turk had 2 aces, 2 kills and 1 block.


GAINESVILLE SWEEPS ACTION

The Red Elephants rolled past the competition in the quad-match at home on Thursday.

Gainesville improved to 11-2 with wins over Apalachee 2-0 (25-19, 25-10), Lakeview Academy 2-0 (25-19, 25-14) and Habersham Central 2-0 (25-9, 25-16).

Isabella Garrish led with 59 assists, 5 aces and 15 digs. Ansley Turner added 21 kills, 16 digs, and 4 blocks. Lauren Ware had 13 kills and 12 digs. Kerrigan Gruhn contributed 10 kills, 6 digs, and 2 blocks. Margaret Embry supplied 2 assists, an ace, and 18 digs. Caroline Resiman had an ace and 6 digs. Savannah Brock and Abigail Council had 2 digs apiece. Kendal Glasper had 9 kills and 10 blocks.  Lauren Teasley had 13 kills and four digs. Callie Patterson, Sadie Roach, and Alicia Wylie combined for three blocks.

Lady Red Elephants will play host to a tri-match on Tuesday against Dawson County and Banks County. 


CHEROKEE BLUFF SPLITS 

The Bears pulled out a close second-set win over Tallulah Falls to split the tri-match at home on Thursday. 

Bluff won the first set 25-14 but struggled a bit in the second, edging Tallulah Falls, 26-24 to win the match. Emma Staples led the Bears with 7 kills, 1 ace and 2 digs. Sage Sutulovich finished with 6 kills, 4 digs and 1 assist. Abbi Whitaker had 4 kills.

Cherokee Bluff fell to Jefferson to open the day's action, 2-0.
