BUFORD — In a battle of powerhouses, the Buford girls softball team opened its season with a 6-1 loss to defending Class 7A state champion Mountain View on Friday night in the Rumble at the Ridge tournament at the Buford Softball Complex.

It was a pitcher's duel early as Buford sophomore Olivia Duncan battled into the fifth inning. Neither team could collect a hit until the fourth inning but the Lady Bears finally got to Duncan plating four runs in the fifth on four hits. They added two more in the sixth. Buford's lone run came in the sixth as the game was called due to tournament time limits.

Senior Abbi Perkins had a double and Buford's lone RBI for the game. Junior Taylor Malvin and freshman Mackenzie Pickens each had one hit for the Lady Wolves.

Buford will be back in action on Saturday in the tournament taking on Parkview and Lambert.
