TIGER — Rabun County standout quarterback Gunner Stockton, the nation's No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2022, announced Thursday that he has narrowed his choices down to two SEC programs.
The 247 Sports five-star quarterback released a statement on Twitter:
"Want to thank my family, my teammates, my coaches and every school that has recruited me for the last two years. With that being said I am down to my final two schools, so I can focus on my junior season at Rabun County. Thank you and God Bless!" -- Gunner Stockton
The tweet also features picture logos of Georgia and South Carolina as his two finalists. Stockton had more than two dozen offers from Power 5 programs all across the country. However, he gave no timetable as to when he would make his ultimate decision.
Stockton has helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of Region 8-2A titles and a pair of state quarterfinals appearances in his first two seasons. Rabun County is again the favorite to win the region and an experienced roster in 2020 has them poised for another deep playoff run.
Rabun County opens its season on Sept. 4 at home against Class 4A Jefferson in a matchup of ranked teams that both return the bulk of their rosters. The Dragons feature highly-recruited Power 5 junior standout Malaki Starks.
