GAINESVILLE — Evan Thompson closed out a start-to-finish victory shooting a 3-under par round of 69 Sunday to win the 2020 City Championship at Chattahoochee Golf Course.
Thompson completed the 54-hole tournament with a 12-under par total of 204. Thompson led after all three days but 2019 champion Grant Crowell and Wilson Baker both pushed the Athens native to the end. Crowell and Baker pulled within two shots of Thompson in the final holes but both finished with a tournament total of 10-under par (206) to tie for second place.
Rounding out the top 5 were Andrew Hughes (211) and Noah Zediker (215).
In the Championship B division, Christian Payne finish the tournament with a 75 (227) to bring home the title. Alex Hughes was two shots back for second place with a final round 72 (229). Tanner Peacock was alone in third posting a 79 (232). Walter Hope (233) and Davis Weaver (233) tied for fourth.
In the First Flight, John Yarger cruised to victory with a 36 hole total of 152 for a 9 shot victory over Phillip Austin (161). Rob Boetz won the low net division at 4 under par.
In the Second Flight, Chad Pierce carded a career-low round of 71 (155) to win the flight by 9 shots over Doug Glidden 82 (164). Low net honors went to Larry Lykins at 1 under par (70-73).
