A developer is eyeing some property in Flowery Branch for a large warehouse and distribution center, but the company wants Flowery Branch City Council to fast-track rezoning for the project so it can be built by the fall of 2021.
City Manager Bill Andrew brought the question to city council members at a meeting Thursday night.
"They're representing a company that wants to do a build-to-suit for about a 750,000 square-foot warehouse/distribution center, and they're looking at a number of sites within this area," Andrew said. "All they require is a rezoning, and typically that would be 90 days under our current [policy] and they were asking if there was any way to cut that time frame down."
Andrew said the developer told him the company would employ between 250 and 350 workers once the project is complete.
Andrew declined to identify the developer or the client. He also did not specify the location of the property in question, but he told council members it was in a location that has been targeted for such development.
"If they turn in a complete application by Aug. 1, then we could have the public hearing at the work session and a vote all on Sept. 3 and the second vote on Sept. 17...and that satisfies all the requirements of the state," Andrew said.
Council members agreed unanimously to address the rezoning application on an expedited schedule if the applicant completes the necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
