GAINESVILLE — Gainesville High School Athletic Director Adam Lindsey announced, on Thursday, the school system will go to digital ticketing for all athletic events for the upcoming school year.
The move to go cashless at athletic events is to provide a more safe way for fans to enter the game.
"We are excited about the opportunity to go cashless moving forward as we feel like this is going to be a great option to ensure that we are offering the safest entry to our events possible for the guest and the gate worker," Lindsey said.
Fans will be required to download the GoFan app to buy tickets. The tickets will be scanned, off the phone, at the gates.
Due to the continued increasing price of officiating and athletic expenses, Gainesville also will be raising ticket prices this fall. Fans will pay $8 to watch a varsity football game, a $1 increase from the previous years. For events including more than one game, ticket prices will be $7, and for single events and Gainesville Middle School games, the ticket prices will be $5.
"Raising the ticket prices is an opportunity for Gainesville City Schools to get in line with the new region schools that will be playing in 2020," Lindsey said. "High school athletics is ever-increasingly more expensive every year, especially with the Georgia High School Association increasing the cost officials."
Gainesville Athletic Club pass prices will not change and will remain the same for the upcoming season.
