Georgia entered 2020 with doubts in the quarterback room. After Jake Fromm, who recorded 42-career starts, entered the NFL Draft, the Bulldogs were in search of experience at the position.

Now, the QB position has turned into a potential battle.

Former USC quarterback JT Daniels was granted immediate eligibility to play for the Bulldogs, joining a now uber-talented quarterback rotation. UGA added graduate transfer, Jamie Newman, from Wake Forest earlier this year. Daniels chose Georgia after entering the transfer portal in May.

Daniels was the No. 3 pocket-passer in the 2018 recruiting class and will most likely shift the QB competition into high gear.

Daniels, a redshirt sophomore and has three years of eligibility remaining, totaled 2,672 yards and 14 touchdowns with 10 interceptions, including a big win over then No. 5-ranked Notre Dame during his freshman season at USC. But his sophomore season ended on a sour note when he was injured on USC's final offensive play of the first half against Fresno State. Daniels tossed for 215 yards and touchdown in the first half before tearing his ACL.

Daniels most likely be in competition with Newman, who finished his first full season as a starter at Wake Forest with 2,868 yards and 26 touchdowns. Newman also carried the ball 180 times for 570 yards and six TDs.

He announced his plan Thursday, April 16, 2020. Coach Clay Helton says the door is still open for Daniels to stay at USC, where Kedon Slovis took advantage of Daniels' knee injury to become the Trojans' starting quarterback last season.
