New Franklin County bridge over I-85 closing for repairs

Posted 1:03PM on Wednesday 8th July 2020 ( 3 years ago )

A new bridge over Interstate 85 in Franklin County will close for repairs later this month after being damaged by a truck traveling on the interstate.

Brown Road will close beginning July 20 to allow replacement of the structure, and the same detour that was in place while the bridge was constructed will be in place.

“We had a dump truck damage the bridge earlier in June,” said Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Katie Strickland. “We are working with the contractor who had just finished building this bridge to do the repair.”

Strickland said the bridge is safe for travel but does need to be repaired.

The replacement of two beams will close the bridge for several weeks.
