CLARKESVILLE – Two employees of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office were arrested Monday after an off-duty fight last week.

Howard Chance Oxner and Zachary Alexander Oxner, both of Mt. Airy, were arrested today, July 6, on one count each of battery, Habersham County Detention Center reports show.

“The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI conduct an investigation into a physical altercation between two Habersham County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Monday, June 29,” said GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles. “The involved parties were Chance Oxner, 51, and his son Zachary Oxner, 29. The altercation took place at a private residence and resulted in injuries to both parties.”

Warrants were obtained for one count of battery each.

The investigation is ongoing, Miles said.

"They are currently under disciplinary action by the department," said Habersham County Sheriff's Lt. Matt Wurtz.
