Investigators are continuing to probe a deadly shooting that occurred at Sweet City Lounge on Sweet City Road in Elberton shortly before 10:45 p.m. Saturday.
Elbert County sheriff’s deputies and Elbert County Emergency Medical Services personnel responded, where they located a male victim on the ground in front of the establishment with life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound, according to a social media post from Elbert County Coroner Chuck Almond.
John L. Gaines of Elberton succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased just before 11:45 p.m. Saturday at Elbert Memorial Hospital, according to Almond.
The incident is being investigated by Elbert County Sheriff’s Office and Elbert County Coroner’s Office. The body has been sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Atlanta.
