Boys and Girls Clubs of Lanier set to reopen next month

Posted 6:00AM on Saturday 20th June 2020 ( 4 years ago )

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Lanier plans to reopen its doors July 6 for in-person summer programming.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, BGCL staff will follow enhanced safety and sanitation methods in accordance with CDC guidelines and public health officials’ recommendations, according to the clubs’ website.

Brenda Bohn, Development and Communications Director for the BGCL, said that parents of kids coming to the club will be required to go through an orientation detailing the clubs’ plans, as well.

“There’s been a lot of forethought into how the kids will be dropped off, picked up, how we will have small groups within the club that will stay together,” said Bohn. “There will be frequent hand washing and sanitizing.”

Bohn said the club facilities will also be professionally cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis.

The organization will also continue to offer their virtual summer programming for those who are unable to participate in the in-person activities.

The summer programs will focus on helping students that may have experienced a learning loss in areas such as math and reading during the shelter in place period. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Lanier employs more than 125 certified teachers who put in more than 19,000 hours or more tutoring club members.

“There will be some fun learning opportunities, there will be arts and crafts, there will be recreation and music…we’ll be offering the kids lots of opportunities to do those different things throughout their camp experience,” said Bohn.

More details on the clubs’ plans to reopen is on their website.
