Raccoon in Flowery Branch tests positive for rabies

A raccoon that had contact with a dog in the Flowery Branch area has tested positive for rabies, according to a news release from Hall County Government.

The incident happened in early June in the 5400 block of Amber Cove Way in Flowery Branch. The raccoon was captured and sent to the Georgia Public Health Lab- Virology Section in Decatur where it tested positive for the disease.

The release states that positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the incident occurred. Anyone who lives in this area is advised to call Hall County Animal Control at 770-531-6830 or during non-working hours call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812 if they see another animal acting abnormally. Pet owners are also encouraged to vaccinate their pets for rabies.

This is the sixth confirmed case of rabies in Hall County in 2020.
