A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday morning after leading authorities on a wrong-way chase in Dawson and Lumpkin counties.
The Dawson County Sheriff's Office said in an online post that the chase began shortly after deputies began receiving information about a vehicle traveling against the flow of traffic in the southbound lanes of Ga. 400.
"An off-duty Forsyth County deputy heading south observed the vehicle driving in his direction and conducted a traffic stop with Dawson County deputies responding as backup, but after a brief encounter, the suspect fled the scene northbound in the southbound lanes, nearly hitting one of our officers," the Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies posted along the highway near Burnt Stand Road were able to successfully deploy "Stop Sticks," deflating the passenger-side tires of the vehicle.
As the chase continued further north, the Georgia State Patrol took the lead when the suspect vehicle began to approach the Lumpkin County line, and troopers were eventually able to bring the chase to an end.
"GSP successfully performed a PIT maneuver just north of Chesterra Dr. in Lumpkin County where the suspect was taken into custody."
No word has been given regarding potential charges at this time, and the suspect's name has not been released.
