Stephen Daniel Bowman, 18, was a member of the Tallulah Falls School Class of 2020.

“The entire Tallulah Falls School family is devastated to learn of the death of Stephen Bowman, a member of the Class of 2020,” said President and Head of School Larry A. Peevy. “Our hearts and prayers go out to Stephen’s parents, Matt and Cherie Bowman, his sister Sarah Black, his family and his classmates. Stephen was an outstanding young man – his legacy of friendship and love of life will be remembered by all who knew him. Please continue to keep Stephen’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”

Funeral services for Bowman will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at First Baptist Church of Cornelia, followed by private interment at Hillside Gardens Cemetery in Clarkesville.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville, but those attending are asked to observe CDC guidelines for social distancing.

Bowman was swimming with two others near Crawford’s Ferry on Lake Hartwell when he went missing Saturday, June 13, said Mark McKinnon of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division.

DNR rangers used side scan sonar to locate the missing teen, who was recovered by Hart County divers.
