Billy Powell wins re-election in Hall County District 2 Commission race

Posted 11:13PM on Tuesday 9th June 2020 ( 3 years ago )

HALL COUNTY –District 2 Commissioner Billy Powell is on his way to a fourth term on the Hall County Commission following a strong showing Tuesday over challenger David Gibbs.

Powell’s margin of victory over Gibbs was more than 30-percentage points, with a number of absentee ballots still waiting to be counted.

The effort to unseat Powell was Gibbs’ first foray into the political arena.  Powell says he first ran for Hall County Commission in 2004 because he wanted to be involved in the construction of the Sardis Connector.  After more than a decade of delays the state project is finally ready to get underway and Powell said that’s why he decided to seek one more term.

Powell will run unopposed in the November General Election.

Additional absentee ballots were being calculated overnight by the Hall County Elections Office. The additional absentee votes are not expected to change the outcome of the election, but please check back in the morning for complete numbers.
