The newest series on AccessWDUN, our 2020 Region RunDown webcast, will look at each region involving northeast Georgia area teams as we, hopefully, begin preparations for the upcoming 2020-21 sports season.

We are starting with football, looking at each region beginning with Class 7A. We will work our way down to Class A Private and Public and every classification in between.

This week we will look at Region 8-A Public, which features northeast Georgia programs Commerce and Towns County.

The new region, consisting of old 8-A holdovers Commerce and Towns, is a power-packed region with four of the six teams combining for 18 state titles in their histories. The Tigers, who won two state titles, and Indians will be joined by Lincoln County (11 state titles), Washington-Wilkes (four championships), Greene County (one title), and Socal Circle.

Lincoln County and Commerce both won nine games in 2019 and the Tigers were ousted by the Red Devils in the second round of the Class A Public playoffs. Expect plenty of athleticism each week in what should be of the more competitive regions in the area.

We caught up with Commerce coach Michael Brown, now in his eighth season, and second-year Towns County coach Jason Roquemore to get their thoughts on the new alignment and what could be in store for the 2020 campaign.
