Winder man charged after wrong-way wreck in Baldwin

The Georgia State Patrol has charged a Winder man with driving under the influence and other violations after he traveled the wrong way and struck two vehicles on Ga. 15/U.S. 441 Bypass in Baldwin Saturday night.

Robert Wallace, 68, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina and traveled the wrong way between Industrial Boulevard and Professional Drive, resulting in a wreck about 8:15 p.m., said Cpl. John P. Getty of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa.

“The Lumina struck a 1999 Kawasaki motorcycle head-on and then struck a 2005 Toyota Tacoma in the passenger side,” Getty said. “The Tacoma was driven by Blong Lee, 49, of Commerce. The Kawasaki was driven by William Etheredge, 25, of Washington Ga.” 

Etheredge was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of treatment of his injuries. 

Wallace was transported to Habersham Medical Center after complaining of injury. 

Wallace was arrested for DUI, open container, suspended registration, no insurance and other traffic violations, Getty said.  

The Georgia State Patrol and its Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team are investigating after a wreck on U.S. 441 in Baldwin Saturday night.
