Thanks to the slow reopening of Georgia's economy, demand for gasoline is up a bit and that means prices also are inching upward.
This week's report from AAA-The Auto club Group showed Georgia motorists are now paying $1.66 per gallon on average for regular unleaded gasoline. AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said Monday's state average is 2-cents more than a week ago, 2-cents less than last month, and 99-cents less than this time last year.
It now costs motorists $24.90 to fill a 15-gallon tank of gasoline, which is $16.20 less than what motorists paid in April 2019 when pump prices hit their peak of $2.74 per gallon.
“Pump prices are fluctuating throughout the country as demand increases and gasoline stocks decrease,” said Waiters. “The boost in demand continues to push pump prices up around the country, as more states reopen businesses.”
National Average
Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has increased by 4 cents to $1.88. Regardless of the national increase, 40 states still have averages of $2.00 or less per gallon. The Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) latest data report showed demand for gasoline increased by 800,000 barrels a day to 6.7 million barrels a day last week, which is 3.2 million barrels less than last year at this time. Gas demand is expected to continue to grow, leading pump prices to continue their increase.

- Least expensive Georgia metro markets – Athens ($1.55), Rome ($1.58) and Albany ($1.61).
- Hall County's average price is $1.66.
