Blue lights highlight healthcare workers at Brenau University

Those in the Brenau University Historic District, from those just driving through to those catching up on their steps on the Brenau mile, will notice the Gainesville college's famous fountain has a new feature.

Blue lights now shine on the Grace Hooten Moore Memorial Fountain to show support of the health care professionals fighting COVID-19 on the front lines.

The idea to illuminate the fountain, and subsequently, the front lawn it sits on and buildings behind it, was that of Chris Ledbetter, an electrician with Brenau's Aramark facilities staff.

Facilities staff remains on campus to prepare for fall classes, and Facility Director Luther Headley called the idea “solid support for what's going on in the community.”

“It’s a positive way to show that Brenau cares,” he said.

Brenau's historic Gainesville campus is located on Washington Street, and is just a few blocks away from the Northeast Georgia Medical Center - Gainesville.

Brenau's Ivester College of Health Sciences donated hundreds of boxes of gloves, masks and N-95 respirators to the Northeast Georgia Health System in late March. It was organized by Department Chair of Physical Therapy Heather Ross and her husband, Matt, who is a patient care tech at NGMC and a Brenau BSN student.

And, no recognition is too small thank to a healthcare worker, as Matt Ross also delivered cookies and thank you cards from his daughter's Girl Scout troop to hospital recently as well.

“It was so thoughtful of the Girl Scouts to take the time to send us some encouragement,” NGMC nurse Blakley Gooch said. “Seeing the effort that was put into these cards brightened our day.”
