A section of Ga. 198 in Banks County remains closed, hours after a tractor-trailer overturned and critically injured the driver.

Banks County Fire/EMS units responded to Ga. 198 near Ga. 63 at 10 a.m. for a wreck with entrapment, said Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols.

“Upon arrival, they found a tractor-trailer overturned with the driver trapped inside the vehicle,” Nichols said. “The vehicle had multiple fluid leaks which were secured by fire personnel. The contents of the tank car/trailer was sludge being transported from a nearby processing plant. No leakage from the trailer was noted.”

The truck’s driver was taken by Banks County EMS to Greenville Memorial Hospital in critical conditions, Nichols said.

Ga. 198 between Ga. 63 and Damascus Road remains closed due to wreck clean-up at this time.

No other injuries were reported.

The Georgia State Patrol and Georgia Public Safety are investigating the wreck.
