Jennifer Deaton, an assistant principal at McEver Arts Academy in Hall County, has been named the new principal of Sugar Hill Elementary. Deaton will assume her new position on June 1, 2020.

"Ms. Deaton has demonstrated a passion and an ability to lead and bond with others,” said Superintendent Will Schofield. “That foundation of building relationships in order that students, teachers, staff, and families thrive is critical to school leadership. We are excited about the future of Sugar Hill Elementary under her direction.”

The Hall County School Board formally approved Deaton's appointment at a meeting Monday, April 27.

Deaton began working for the Hall County School district in 1996 as a counselor at both Riverbend and Lula Elementary Schools. In 1997, she transferred to Lula Elementary to work as a counselor full-time. In 2015, she moved into school administration, assuming the role of Assistant Principal at Wauka Mountain Elementary School. She currently serves as Assistant Principal at McEver Arts Academy, a position she has held since 2018.

Deaton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science from Erskine College (1985) and a Masters of Education in School Counseling from Campbell University (1989). She earned her Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University in 2006.
