Gainesville High School officials have announced a new weekly event that will honor the graduating class of 2020, with the first showing to be held tonight.

Because so many events have been cancelled during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, officials have decided to hold a weekly "Friday Night Lights" event at City Park, where photos of GHS Seniors will be shown on the stadium Jumbotron beginning at 8:20 p.m. each Friday.

"We will use the lights of Bobby Gruhn Stadium at City Park to recognize and celebrate the Class of 2020 and all that they have achieved," said GHS Principal Jamie Green. "During times like these, we are buoyed by the spirit, talents, and tenacity of the 126th graduating class. Go Big Red!"

The event will end on May 22nd, according to a media release sent out Friday evening, and is open to the public as long as social distancing guidelines are followed by those in attendance.
