Jurors who have received summons in Hall or Dawson counties won’t have to report until after May 31, as part of an extension of the judicial emergency order signed Thursday.
That means there will be no jury trials until after May, according to the order signed by Kathlene F. Gosselin, chief judge of the Northeastern Judicial Circuit.
The order also delays all civil and nonessential matters during April unless they can be conducted by video or teleconferencing. A decision about nonessential matters in May will be made at a later date.
The initial judicial emergency declaration was made in mid-March as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Gosselin’s order Thursday extends it for two more months.
The courts will continue to perform essential duties. Those include the issuance of search warrant and arrest warrants, initial court appearances, bond reviews, temporary protective orders and restraining orders in domestic abuse cases, detention hearings and emergency removal in juvenile court matters and mental health commitment hearings.
