Driver charged with DUI after vehicle strikes child in Clarkesville

A 6-year-old boy was transported by ambulance after being struck by a car in Clarkesville Sunday night.

The wreck happened at 7:45 p.m. on Ed Carroll Drive at Lockwood Street when a child entered the road in front of a 2012 GMC Acadia driven by 44-year-old Renita Folds of Cornelia, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

The vehicle struck Jariah Jones, 6, of Clarkesville in the middle of the roadway with its front passenger side, according to GSP. Jones was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with possible injuries.

Folds was not injured but was charged by GSP with driving under the influence.
