CLARKESVILLE – One of four candidates for Habersham County Commission District 5 is withdrawing from the May 19 primary.
“Due to some arising medical issues, I have made the decision to pull myself out of the District 5 Commissioners race,” candidate Randy D. Miller said in a statement.
“This has laid heavy on my heart during the past several days and over the weekend,” the statement reads. “I feel that I need to take care of these issues so if I were elected in the future, I can give you, the great citizens of Habersham County, 100% of myself and dedication. Now I’m sure there will be rumors as to why I have decided to pull out of the campaign, and this is why I’m being straightforward with you about the reason.
“I appreciate the overwhelming support you have shown me and, with that said, I look forward to the future of our great county and to future elections,” Miller’s statement reads.
Habersham County Elections Supervisor Laurel Ellison said Miller officially withdrew on Tuesday, March 24, and his name will not appear on the ballot.
Prior to his withdrawal, Ellison had planned a hearing challenging Miller’s candidacy, she confirmed. She did not release specifics of that challenge because he withdrew from the race.
Miller, Georgia Locke Arnold and Mike Adams qualified earlier this month to challenge incumbent Commissioner Tim Stamey for the post.
