Simon Property Group has closed all its retail properties, including malls, premium outlets and mills in the U.S. until March 29.

That means the Mall of Georgia in Buford and the North Georgia Premium Outlets in Dawsonville are closed.

In a news release, Simon said it made the decision after extensive discussions with federal, state and local officials in recognition of the need to address the spread of COVID-19.

“The health and safety of our shoppers, retailers and employees is of paramount importance and we are taking this step to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community,” the company said in a message on its websites.

Already some of the stores inside the malls had made plans to close. Belk, Macy’s and J.C. Penney have closed all of their stores through the end of the month. Other retailers like Target and Walmart have announced reduced hours. Kroger and Publix have announced they will have reduced hours to give workers more time to restock shelves and thoroughly clean the stores.
