Anderson, Greenville-Pickens delay 2020 race seasons

Two South Carolina short tracks have announced that they will be delaying their 2020 seasons based on the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, South Carolina and Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, South Carolina, made separate announcements on Facebook on Monday.

Anderson Motor Speedway announced the season opener has been postponed.

“Following protocol issued by the Governor of South Carolina regarding COVID-19, as well as, the protocol issued the DHEC and the CDC we will be postponing our 2020 Season Opener and adhering to the recommended 14-day quarantine period,” the post read. “Currently, it is our hope that we will be able to start racing the beginning of April, but we will continue to monitor and re-evaluate based on the situation at that time.

“We take the nature of this public health crisis seriously and for the safety and welfare of all our patrons, drivers and staff we believe this is the best course of action.”

Greenville-Pickens Speedway said on their Facebook page that they have decided to postpone the 2020 season until further notice.

“Our first priority is the well being of our fans, competitors and staff,” the post read. “As a result we will be operating in accordance to the request of S.C. Governor, Henry McMaster that events be limited to 100 people or less. We will continue to keep all of you updated on developments.”
