ICYMI: Stories you may have missed from the weekend

Here are a few stories from the weekend you may have missed.

1. Due to concerns over the spread of Coronavirus, Georgia election officials have postponed the state’s presidential primaries along with the ESPLOST and bond referendum election in Gainesville and Hall County. The elections will now take place on May 19, the same date as the state’s primary election for state and local offices. READ MORE

2. The Oakwood Police Department has added a full-service K-9 to the team. The K-9, Rico, is trained to intervene in potentially dangerous situations, as well as article search and recovery, building searches and other tasks like intimidate potential criminals and prevent a situation from escalating. 3. The Hall County Board of Commissioners has approved plans to build a new fire station on the south end of the county using the power of eminent domain. A unanimous vote by the commission will allow county officials to purchase two parcels of property on Holiday Road for Hall County Fire Station #17. READ MORE

4. ChamberofCommerce.org recently released its newest report, Best Small Cities for Business, which highlights the best mid-sized cities in the nation for small businesses. Gainesville was No. 32, the highest rated town in Georgia. READ MORE

5 Over 7,200 students (PreK-12) will benefit from a $15,000 grant from the Jackson EMC Foundation. This funding will be used by Elachee Nature Science Center for its Science Education Programming, which Elachee officials say will help provide educational experiences for even more students.
