A third Coronavirus case has been confirmed in Northeast Georgia, this one in Forsyth County, officials with District 2 Public Health said Monday.

The news comes just hours after Northeast Georgia Medical Center said it was treating two patients with Coronavirus at its Braselton Hospital. Statewide, 121 cases have been confirmed.

District Public Health epidemiology is working to identify and notify any close contacts who may have been exposed, Dave Palmer, the department’s public information officer, said.

No information about the age or sex of the three patients were immediately released, nor was information about how they might have contracted the virus. Palmer said one of the cases at the Braselton hospital is a Hall County resident. The other is a resident of another, unnamed county.

In Braselton, hospital officials said the patients were being kept in isolation and that anyone who needs medical attention should feel safe coming to the Braselton facility.

“Our physicians, nurses and other staff are following all guidelines from the CDC to provide the best possible care,” Anthony Williamson, president of NGMC Braselton, said.

Williamson said both patients are being kept in a negative pressure room, wearing personal protective equipment and following all recommended cleaning procedures to help keep the patient and all others in the hospital safe.

Georgia had 121 confirmed cases of COVID-19 at noon today, the last time the Georgia Department of Public Health updated its Coronavirus daily status report website. One death has been reported in Georgia. Fulton and Cobb counties have the most reported cases, but several south Georgia counties are now reporting cases, too.

The U.S. death toll rose to 62 across 12 states on Sunday, with the total number of confirmed cases surging to more than 3,200. The worldwide death toll topped 6,000.

Palmer urged people to wash their hands often with soap and warm water, to avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth and to avoid close contact with people who are sick.

He said anyone who develops fever with cough and shortness of breath, or anyone who has had contact with someone who is suspected to have COVID-19 should stay home and call their doctor.
