The first patient to be quarantined for coronavirus has recovered and been sent home to continue his daily routine.
According to the AJC, Joey Camp, a former National Guardsmen from Canton, went to the hospital on March 5 with a fever, chills and aching joints. He was diagnosed with pneumonia and tested positive for COVID-19. He was discharged on March 9 and sent, by ambulance, to Hard Labor Creek State Park, where Georgia officials have set up emergency trailers to monitor coronavirus patients.
He was told he would be staying for a 14-day quarantine, but he was told this morning that he was free to return home. He no longer has any signs or fever that is symptomatic of COVID-19.
Following CDC guidance, state officials say they consider him cured and feel confident that he is safe to return to his community, especially since he has shown no signs of the illness in over a week.
Camp says he intends to return home to Canton and continue his former job cooking at a Waffle House. That particular Waffle House closed for a brief time to sanitize the entire restaurant after he tested positive.
