Next weekend's Hall County Republican Convention will be held in a smaller venue with a smaller group of participants because of continuing concerns over the pandemic.
Party officials said in an email statement Saturday the gathering, which will be held next Saturday, is now planned for party headquarters at Foxhole Guns & Archery instead of the Gainesville Civic Center. Doors will open at 9:30 and the meeting will begin at 10:00.
“These steps are based on guidance from the GA GOP and the RNC (Republican National Committee),” according to the message. “There will also be no refreshments at the meeting as well.”
The purpose of the meeting is to elect delegates for District and State conventions and to vote on a new secretary for the local party.
Because of the smaller venue and other factors, “we are suggesting that most people DO NOT attend the meeting. The Hall County Executive Committee will ensure enough people are in attendance in order to conduct official business. However, the County Convention remains open to the public consistent with our Rules and the Call. You can review a message from our State Chairman David Shafer here for more information.”
Party officials say please follow these steps if you must attend:
If you are coughing, sneezing or feeling ill, do not attend.
If you or a household member has recently visited China or any of the other places covered by the President’s travel ban, do not attend.
If your immune system is compromised or you are in an at-risk demographic group, do not attend.
If you are older or suffer from heart disease, lung disease or diabetes, do not attend.
If you do attend the County Convention, thoroughly wash your hands, carry hand sanitizing fluid and avoid handshaking and hugging.
*For those seeking to become delegates for District or State conventions:
You are not required to physically attend the meeting. Again, you can review a message from our State Chairman David Shafer here for more information.
If you wish to be considered as a delegate to your Congressional District Convention or State Convention please fill out the online delegate registration form. If you have any concerns or questions then please contact our Chairman Theresa Webb at [email protected]. Please forward this email or share this link with anyone who you think would like to be a delegate or alternate as well.
If you are a County delegate or alternate, we also ask that you submit the online registration form instead of the pre-registration form sent in a previous email.
Please submit your information by next Thursday, March 19, in order to allow enough time to compile and verify the information for all registrants.
