Tennis: GHS boys win; Buford sweeps Johnson

WINDER — The Gainesville boys blew past Winder-Barrow, 5-0, on Monday. 

All three singles players No. 1 Philip Mady 6-4 6-2, No. 2 Dylan Pineda 6-1 6-1 and No. 3 Truett Keener 6-1 6-0, all won in straight sets. 

In doubles, No. 1 Caleb Anderson and Charlie Burns won the first set 6-2 and captured the second set 4-1 with a retirement due to injury. 
No. 2 doubles team Andrew Elliott and Samuel Holt won 6-3, 6-0. 

The Red Elephants (5-1, 3-0 Region 8-6A) will play Riverside on Thursday at Longwood Park. 

Buford boys 5, Johnson 0; Buford girls 5, Johnson 0: The Buford boys and girls were too tough to handle as they swept Johnson on Monday at Buford City Park. 

In boys singles action, Brady Todd beat Cody Peck, 6-0; 6-0. James Troutt beat Jamie Baeza, 6-0; 6-0, and Leyton Grothe beat Allan Garcia, 6-0; 6-2. In doubles, Zac Harms and Matthew Maurer shutout Alonzo Madero and Levi McBride, 6-0; 6-0, and Grayson Gilbert and Nic Keller beat Jesus Valles and Enrique Cammacho, 6-0; 6-1 

In girls singles action, Alex Mann knocked off Zoey Blankenship, 6-0; 6-0, Callie Perkins beat Olivia Carpenter  6-0; 6-1, and Kylie McCammon captured the win over Melia Glover, 6-0; 6-2. 

In doubles, Sydney Grothe and Izzie Brewer beat Sophia Chica and Arlette Mendoza, 6-0; 6-0, and Kennedy Deloach and Taylor Ryczek beat Alejandra Gomez, 6-0; 6-0.
