A young boy slipped and fell down an embankment while hiking with family members on Panther Creek Trail in Habersham County Saturday afternoon.
“We had a juvenile male slip off the trail, receiving minor injuries,” said Battalion Chief Matt Ruark of Habersham County Emergency Services.
Panther Creek Trailhead is located off Historic Highway 441 north of Turnerville.
Habersham County Emergency Services Station 17 and Habersham Search and Rescue (HABSAR) responded, along with Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department.
“We assisted in carrying the subject out, who was then transported with non-life-threatening injuries to Northeast Georgia Medical Center,” Ruark said.
The call was dispatched at 3 p.m. and the rescue lasted about three hours, Ruark said.
During that call, a medical call was dispatched at Tallulah Gorge State Park in Tallulah Falls.
“We ended up having to request mutual aid from Rabun County for an ambulance on that one,” Ruark said. “Station 7 [Tallulah Falls Fire Department] and DNR were able to handle without having to release any units from the scene we were at.”
